Jeff Iwanicki, 46, a graphic arts teacher at Fairfield Warde High School will face a jury on charges that include multiple counts of impairing the morals of a minor, public indecency and breach of peace.
The trial date has been set for Monday, Jan. 28 and is expected to last approximately a week.
The trial comes following Iwanicki’s arrest for allegedly exposing himself to a 15-year-old student on Nov. 2 and Dec. 6, 2016 in a multipurpose room at the school, police said. There was no romantic relationship between Iwanicki, a Milford resident who was listed as a technical education teacher at Warde's Townsend House, and the student.
Police noted that there was no alleged physical contact between Iwanicki and the student. Despite the charges, Iwanicki has kept his job, according to the Connecticut Post. The report states that the complaint against Iwanicki came days after he reprimanded her for skipping classes and threatened to bring it up with the dean.
Following the accusations, the Board of Education appointed Frederick Ward III to act as an arbitrator and investigate the incidents. After investigating and conducting interviews, Ward reported to the Board of Education that the police investigation was insufficient and the girl was not credible. Iwanicki has denied that the exposures happened, and other students stated that they were in the room at the time they are supposed to have taken place and did not see anything.
